Accumold, Inc. – Creating Strategic Partnerships to Build a Skilled Labor Pool
In today’s highly competitive marketplace one Iowa company has made long strides to ensure it has the right resources for the future. The most important resource, according to the company, is a highly skilled and trained workforce. Through a strategic partnership with the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), Accumold of Ankeny, IA, has positioned itself well for the future.
Accumold, a high-tech manufacturer of micro injection molded plastics parts and components, has relied on DMACC for many years. Many of the company’s 105 employees have received some form of training at the college during the company’s 20 year history. Specifically, a large portion of the company’s mold building team has been through DMACC’s Tool and Die program.
From this long standing relationship the Accumold Scholars program was created. The Accumold Scholars program is a joint venture developed between Accumold and the Des Moines Area Community College to train students in the Tool and Die Making trade. This agreement was signed in February of 2006 in former Governor Vilsack’s office by Accumold Chief Executive Roger Hargens and DMACC President Rob Denson.
“DMACC is an important part of our success. Their Tool and Die program has provided Accumold with many great employees over the years. It only made sense to formalize our relationship with this scholarship program,” said Hargens.
Recognizing that the company would continue to need skilled workers in the future, the scholarship was set up to train and deliver the future workforce to Accumold. Incoming students have an opportunity to receive on the job training with Accumold while working their way through DMACC.
“It’s a win-win,” Hargens said. “We have assurance that we will have a strong workforce to grow with, we help provide the State of Iowa with good high-tech jobs and we help promote the quality programs that DMACC has to offer.”
